Inspirations For Our Opening

Inspiration

We were on google looking for some inspiration and we started googling articles on real life abductions, we stumbled upon a daily mail article about a teenage girl stalked and assaulted on her way to school. the girl was not named due to being only 14 years old, also the attack was just days after a young women was sexualy assualted.

The girl was taken by a busy junction in an upmarket area of Oxford by two men who bundled her into a car around 8 as she was on her way to school - this gave us the idea to involve school into our opening. as its an convenient location for our group also its relatable to other teenagers as things like this unfortunately still happen today even with society's awareness.

the girl was also found around midday about a mile away from her attack knocking at houses for help, after her escape. - We thought we could incorporate this kind of frantic escape to our film as it creates an enigma code and suspense as we can build on her urgency to get away from the kidnapper.

Here is the link to the article for any further details;

Consideration of representation

Consideration of representation

Representation of age-
Our film opening includes representations of age as our main character is a teenager. Teenageer stories are the most favourable and popular in the horror industry as we found out from the questionnaire we did. Cath's young age builds empathy from the audience towards her as people tend to feel more sorry for people under the age of 18, it also represents how vulnerable Cath actually is. Another way in which age is emphasised in our film is that Cath is leaving school and that she is wearing school uniform, this emphasises her young age and vulnerability. Furthermore, when Cath is speaking to her mum, we can clearly see the age difference as Cath's mum seems more responsible telling Cath that she will pick her up from school. Cath insisting that she's fine and that she will get a train home shows how naive she is. This makes Cath look like a stereotypical character that plays the victim in a horror film.

Representation of gender-
Our film opening also includes representations of gender as our main character is a girl which is very common in most horror films. This is part of the male gaze theory by Laura Mulvey which suggests that all media products encourage the characters and audience to "leer" at and "look" at women. By having a young attractive female play the role of Cath, this attracts young males to watch the film. This is a reason why women being the main victim is usually stereotypical in horror films.

Film Treatment

ESCAPE - Film Treatment

Teenage girl Cath, leaves school on a bleak friday night unexpecting the out of the ordinary to happen. she is taken. all that's left is her phone and bag at the crime scene. she is stalked through the alley outside her school. By a predator, an unknown predator. his face is hidden. the film is a phenomenal take based on the real life abduction of Catherine Allison taken from her auto biography of her teen trauma as she triumphed in her escape of her capturer. Starring 9 time award winning actor Edward jackson, and the teenage protagonist is starred by an upcoming actress Ciara Alford in her debute. It shows a heartfelt and emotional story of Catherine's fight for freedom.

Critics have rated 'Escape' as a 4 out of 5 star film for its heart pulling strings on the audience, with Cath's isolation from the outside world as her normal childhood was taken from her.

Font Title Research

Font title research using after affects
I think that this font is relevant to the horror genre as it is red and therefore it symbolizes blood and gore, I think that the glowing of the font also creates a creepy effect, it also relates to low lighting which also is a convention of the horror genre. I think that I could maybe change the position and the size of this writing as  if it is over action it could take the attention off of it and so therefore the audience may miss something important.

I think that this positioning of the font is better than the other one as it would not interfere with action due to it being in the corner. It is still a red colour so therefore still symbolizes horror this means that it will still produce a eerie atmosphere for the audience. it is also a darker red and so therefore could be seen as more horrifying.

I don't think i would use this font as i think that it is too eye capturing and therefore would take the audiences eye off the action that is occurring in the background. Also i think that is too light-hearted for the horror genre as is it quite bubbly within itself. So therefore i think one of the other fonts i have researched will be more suited to the film that we are producing.
